While most new cars are designed as
upgrades to deliver greater performance or comfort than their
predecessors, the 2017 Q7 is actually designed with an opposite
objective which is to tone things down a notch. This Q7 retains a lot of
features from its older, stronger, more luxurious and obviously more
expensive sibling but also carries a number of significant differences.
While the Q7 3.0 TDI SE also comes with a
V6 3.0lt TDI engine as its predecessor, the car has a lot less power.
When considered without comparison to the more powerful Q7, the engine
feels capable as it works with the 8 speed automatic transmission to
drive this SUV. The 2017 Q7 can reach a maximum speed of 134 mph and
accelerates from 0-62mph in 7.3sec which is .8 seconds more than the
other TDI.
The 2017 Q7 handles very well and is
impressive in its steering. The suspension system is however not as
responsive as the Q7 that comes with air suspension systems. The
interior is also very similar in feel and standards to the original Q7
and comes with the same features that make Q7 a luxurious ride whether
you have the original or entry level model. The front seats and second
row seats are quite spacious and offer room even for those who are tall.
The third row seats however remain tight and are not a good idea for
adults taking a longer ride.
Overall, the 2017 version of the Q7 is
every bit as good a Q7 as its predecessor when considering the interior,
comfort factor and appearance. There may be a slight difference in
terms of the performance that the car delivers but it remains in
contention as a good buy for those looking to own a reliable SUV that
you would compare to vehicles such as the BMW X5, Land Rover Discovery
and Volvo XC90.
